Continue Playing Through the Campaign to Access Online Features

The Halo Infinite co-op campaign is still yet to drop, but we've got you covered with everything we currently know about this upcoming update, including a beta release date, how to access it, and any additional features coming with it.

Halo Infinite's co-op campaign has been one of the most highly anticipated additions to the game – alongside the battle royale mode. While the Halo campaigns have traditionally launched with a cooperative mode, Infinite did not feature one at launch.

Despite this, 343 previously reassured fans that a co-op campaign was still a priority, but news surrounding the update has been rather scarce.

However, the developers have now given an update, so here's everything we currently know about this feature.

Players will each control their version of Master Chief as they play co-op.

The devs had outlined August 2022 as the release period for Halo Infinite's co-op campaign element, but it's now September, and there's no sign of this exciting feature.

Posting on Twitter in July, the Halo devs announced the following: "With #HaloInfinite campaign network co-op arriving later this year, we're planning to flight it to Halo Insiders in July. Register and make sure your Halo Insider profile is up to date for a chance to participate!"

However, the beta flight for n etwork Co-op for Halo Infinite which was supposed to go live by the week of July 11, has been delayed further. Brian Jarrard, 343's Community Director, said that their team wants to ensure a positive and worthwhile flight experience for the players.

After this, it was supposed to be August, and now a new Tweet from Jarrad has suggested that the wait is expected to be longer.

In response to a fan who said: "Halo community right now waiting to hear if Halo Infinite co-op delayed," Jarrad had this to say: "Targets" are a stake in the ground at the time but of course subject to change. We'll have a roadmap update tomorrow on what to expect with Infinite in the months ahead.

We'll be sure to update this section once we hear further information, so be sure to check back here regularly. For now, continue reading to find out about how co-op will work as well as the added features that will be coming to the game when this update does eventually go live.

No Spartan Left Behind System

One element that the dev team spoke about in detail was the way player progress will transfer over from solo and co-op campaign playthroughs.

While previously, every Halo game would separate your solo and co-op progression. Halo Infinite will merge the two. This allows for constant retention of progress, regardless of how many other others, if any, players choose to engage in the campaign.

Lead World Designer John Mukley had this to say when breaking down this new development for Halo's proposed co-op experience: "I could be playing Solo campaign, jump into a Co-Op session for a few hours, then launch back into Solo play and all the mission progress, acquired collectibles, equipment found, achievements earned, and upgrades made in either session would be intact. Gone are the days of playing someone else's game while earning no progress."

Spartan Core Progression and Collectibles

Up to four players will be able to replay Halo Infinite's campaign together

Playing through Halo Infinite's campaign in co-op will still allow players to upgrade Chief's abilities. Spartan Cores, the item that serves as the leveling-up tool for the different power-ups Chief unlocks throughout the campaign, will still be available to find.

When playing co-op, if a player stumbles across a Spartan Core and picks it up, all other players who have not already acquired the specific core will get credit for it also. Players are then left up to their own devices in regards to how and what they choose to level up.

"This means that you get the benefits of working together, but you also have the room for self-expression with your personal playstyle," said Isaac Bender.

"If one of you wants to focus on upgrading your Drop Wall to protect yourself while your partner gets the Grappleshot melee upgrade to charge into the enemies' ranks, you can do that."

Halo Infinite platforms and cross-play compatibility

Co-op for Halo Infinite will be available on the Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. As well as this, cross-platform support will be featured so that PC players can still play co-op with their console friends.

When asked about cross-play compatibility, Principal Software Engineer Lead Isaac Bender detailed that "t here are differences in graphics quality and frame-rate, but this applies equally to single-player.

He then went on to explain that "any combination of PCs and Xboxes up to four players are supported, as is playing over Xbox Cloud Gaming. All Co-Op games are hosted on dedicated servers."

To hop into a co-op campaign. Players will simply utilize the Fireteam system that is featured when linking up to play multiplayer with friends at the moment.

"Everyone's progress counts," began Bender when discussing how the co-op campaign system will work.

"So you'll pick which save slot you want your Co-Op progress to count towards. After everyone has picked their save slot, you'll get a summary of where your team will be starting, based on the "No Spartan Left Behind" system that I described above."

Mission replay getting brought in, finally

Halo players will now be able to tackle missions in a new way with co-op.

One of the most controversial omissions for the launch of Halo Infinite was the lack of replayability when it came to the game's campaign. While players are usually able to replay campaign missions to their heart's delight, Infinite disallowed this up until now.

To replay missions, players simply highlight the mission they wish to play through and select replay. The game will then give you the option to select difficulty and activate skulls before the Fireteam is then transported over to begin the mission.

Players will also retain all progress and upgraded gear even if certain abilities were not accessible when the mission was originally played through. In essence, it means you'll be able to go back to the first mission and smash through it with a fully upgraded Master Chief.
